I remember really enjoying writing my review because he is such a complex, paradoxical character.<br /><br />I loved your comment about Dostoevsky's writing having characters that tend "to embrace bad, radical ideas that lead to catastrophe". And he does it from a moral context, not just "horror for horror's sake." People can rationalize basically anything. <br /><br />This was the first Russian novel I tried to read, and it was so bleak I didn't make it past halfway.
