I
was so very happy and honored when Maria from A Night's Dream of Books
asked me to write a guest blog. The first task at hand, deciding on what topic
to write about was half the fun. As both Maria and myself share a love for the
original 1960’s era Star Trek Series and I have lots of thoughts on that topic,
we decided that I would write about how that television show has been an
influence upon me and my literary tastes in so many ways. Readers can find Part I my commentary on the
subject here and here.
While
over there please do look around Maria’s Blog. Aside from that fact that it is
one of the most aesthetically pleasing sites out there, Maria provides warm, enthusiastic
and intriguing commentary on a host of books and topics. In addition to classic
literature, Maria covers another favorite topic of mine, Science Fiction and
Fantasy. At this very interesting blog one will also find deep meditations on theology,
mythology and humankind’s place in the universe. It is such a fun place!
Hey, Brian!!
ReplyDeleteSorry I didn't comment sooner. I just didn't have a chance! In fact, I just got home from my night job...it's almost 10 PM here in Miami, Florida...
Anyway, I want to thank you, thank you, thank you for your wonderful, kind statements in this post!! I GREATLY appreciate everything you wrote about my blog!! I work very hard on it, and would do even more if I didn't have TWO jobs!! AARRGGHH!!! I hate how much time working takes away from my blog, not to mention my reading!! I consider the blog my REAL job, but unfortunately, I can't possibly make a living from it...
The next installment of your terrific STAR TREK post will be up very soon!! : )
Hey Maria - You are very welcome. Your blog is awesome!
ReplyDeleteAs I have mentioned I too work really long hours. It is such a shame that such trivialities get in the way of reading and blogging!
Hi, again!
ReplyDeleteWell, thanks yet again!! You ROCK.
Yes, it IS indeed a shame that such things get in the way of what's TRULY important!! I wish I were working for a publisher or something. Then I could be around books ALL DAY, and would be expected to read as many as possible!! :(
Thanks for introducing to a new blog. There are so many, it's always good to know which ones those we follow like.
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline - Indeed there are so many great blogs out there. I cannot even really follow some that I want to for lack of time.
ReplyDeleteBrian you have a way of inspiring me..Though sci-fic is never been my kind of genre still you have got me really curious that I guess I should take some recommendation from you on this too..Well that would be added to the other books you have already recommended...That post was awesome as always...Just keep up all the grt work..I hope you find more time to write and read so people like me can always get the perks...
ReplyDeleteI grew up without TV and have never owned one, so I have no clue about Star Trek. I know it has a huge, dedicated, fan base though. :)
ReplyDeleteHi VB - The Original series is well worth a go. As I pointed out in my commentary some of what made it so ground breaking for the time is a little passé now however. Still, the old shows are fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the good word!
Hi Violet - It is actually a good thing to have no TV. As I pointed out in another post I watch no shows now.
ReplyDeleteBack in the late 1960s,1970s and early 1980s however, if one did watch TV, Star Trek was something special.
I just found this really cool blog
ReplyDeletehttp://sffmasterworks.blogspot.ie/
Hi Caroline - I took a look. It looks really great! Lots of commentary on Classic Science Fiction over there. Looks like a fair number of books that I have read.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link!
Hi, again, Brian!
ReplyDeleteI just went to the link posted by Caroline, and...man, what a FIND!!! I'm now following that blog! What I really like about it is that they review the MASTERWORKS. WOW.
I've got to make an effort to read and review more science fiction. My blog is supposed to be eclectic, but in actuality, it's much too slanted toward paranormal romance & urban fantasy, specifically of the young adult variety... And I DO love science fiction!! Fantasy, too, of course.
Well, let's see how I about getting more SF on my blog. Time is NOT my friend, and I know that most of my readers are into YA paranormal romance & urban fantasy. So I've been doing a LOT of that. But heck, I want to do other genres, too. On the other hand, I don't want to lose my current readers. I've noticed that my "The Door Is Open" posts are NOT attracting that many comments...except from people who enjoy reading thought-provoking stuff. So far, that means you. That's it. Geez! Incredible!!
Anyway, I'm very happy to have found that blog, thanks to Caroline!!! : )
Hi, Caroline!
ReplyDeleteIf you come back to read these comments, I hope you read this one, because I want to thank you for posting the link to that FABULOUS SF blog!!! I LOVE it, and am now following it!! So thanks again, and...live long and prosper!! : )
Hey Maria - That SF Masterworks site is terrific.
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the time issue. Never enough to read, never enough to spend online and blog. Ect.
In case you missed it Caroline's blog is super and it is here:

PS Maria - All your Blog posts are really interesting and fun to read, even when you cover books that are usually in my sights.
ReplyDeleteToo bad that "The Door Is Open" posts do not attract as much interest as you hoped. they are really superb.
