Jose Saramago Month

I will be joining Miguel at St. Oberose for José Saramago Month in November. Saramago (1922-2010) was a distinguished Portuguese writer and 1998 Nobel Prize in Literature winner.

For the month I will be reading and posting a blog on The Stone Raft. I have only previously read one other work by Saramago, Baltasar and Blimunda. I loved that work, my commentary on that it is here.

Anyone interested in joining or for more information on Saramago should head over to the above link. While over there please check out Miguel's blog. His site is literary, witty and full of smart observation.

Brian, thank you very much for promoting this event and for joining it with a reading of one of Saramago's novels.

Bah! I would have loved to join but November is German Literature Month. I'll be following you and Miguel.

Hi Caroline - I still hope to join your German Literature month for one review. I wish that I could read faster!

Caroline, no problem. I'm happy to know you'll be following it, though.

Hi Brian
Sounds great! I've read a couple of Saramago books and really enjoyed them (Death at Intervals and The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis). Not sure if I'll be able to take part in this because November is a busy month for me, but I'll definitely follow along and look forward to your review, as well as Miguel's and others.

Hey Andrew - While I was trying to figure out which book to read this month I ran across information on both Death at Intervals and The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis. Many folks highly recommend those books. Saramago has so many interesting sounding novels!

I certainly understand about being busy! It really gets tight when trying to fit books in!

Hey Tom - I could not find any other comments from yourself so I guess that it got lost. These comment systems can be maddening!

Hey VB - I am sure no one would mind if you did a reread.

I almost read "Blindness" this month. However,a as I posted on Miguel's blog, though I loved the movie version of that book, there was a rape and murder scene that was so disturbing I am hesitant to read the novel.
